Well,

April 2, 2005

Well,

A new quarter begins. This one will be pretty neat, methinks. I walked into my ES X335 class with wonder: it felt like High School again, but with a filipino Mr. Lunsford. "The Filipino/a American Experience" is a seminar oriented, not lecture oriented class, and boy does it feel like sitting down back at Morse, in a very good way.

I’m only taking 13 units this quarter, so it seems like it’ll be a bit easier than of late. This seems like a good quarter to get into two different internships. I’ve already started my first quarter at UGS, the on-campus printing company run entirely by students, and I’m really excited to get an interview pretty soon with Big Images, a wide format printer on Broad St. run by the guy who used to live in my room. If I get the internship, it’ll make my day. The guy told Jim he’s looking for somebody to learn the ropes so they can eventually be an actual employee. If all goes well, I’ll be able to stay in the area after graduation next year, and that sounds swell!

the die has been cast

April 22, 2005
well, its official now: i’m graduating this year. it seems like people are normally excited about graduating early, but i’m actually kind of bummed. most of my friends are graduating next year, and it would’ve been fun to walk with them. and to have an extra year to figure out what i’m going to do with my life. and to finish up the 9 freaking credits i still need for the poli sci major. but oh well. i may have no clue what’s going on in my life, but as long as God does, everything is ok.

bummer

April 14, 2005
well, i didn’t get the RA job that i applied for. it’s kind of a bummer, but i wasn’t really expecting to get hired, so its not a huge letdown. it just means i need to look that much harder for the money i’ll need to stick around at college.

anyways, time to finish rewriting a paper. and then run. because lets face it, i am a glutton for punishment.

the rain is washing away the pollen on my car, which i’m positive will return tomorrow morning.

listening to radio stations on headphones is fun. we got the #1 add today (spoon), which means that i did my job really well? either than or we just put out good records.

i bought my plane ticket for sasquatch last week, which means in a month i’ll be having the best time of my life in a tent...other than those exploratory trips we took during high school.
just bought this book, which i saw on the OC...so you know it must be good. i first came across it at powell’s...it’s helping me gear up for the pacific side again. april showers coast to coast. and prom dates. and flowery smelling cd boxes.

i need to visit LA and write letters to chile

this weekend i went to harrisonburg, va for macrock --mid-atlantic college radio convention--it was fun. i took an intern with me, and we set up a table and sold lots of merge releases. people were like, "why is merge here? what are you doing?" and i got all testy..but whatever. jade tree had the biggest display by far. we didn’t see many bands-only a couple minutes of chin up chin up, magnolia electric co., and matt pond pa. but i did my job, representin’. and met more people.

this week: m. ward, merge bands on the OC, and the kudzu wish. i’m missing aqueduct and the golden republic tonight but A: i saw too much of aqueduct in austin. and B: i don’t want to support astralwerks more than i have to.

i had my birthday and it was good, mom bought me an ice cream cake yumm and now it’s all gone. i got 4 free songs on itunes from pepsi tops someone gave me.

sxsw--i’m tooootally going. it’s going to be the reunion. i will love it. hopefully. i think all the good bands are scheduled for saturday night so it’ll be really hard to get out and see them all..i hope these venues are really near eachother. i’m hoping to make connections..is that bad? whatever. today i got rid of the california plates on my car. i’m hoping to save them forever....siigh. i think i’ll have bojangles for dinner. or..hmm...shells & cheese. or a ham sandwich. or PIZZA MM..durham should open a cabo san luis. i would die.

ps-only like a week till scott pilgrim 2. and only like 2 years till its a major motion picture..!

last night at the dwelling we had a good show. i put it together. it stressed me out a lot, especially since it overlapped with my senior project play, but in the end everything worked out perfectly. chin up chin up are all really really great dudes. they’re going to write me a letter of recommendation. they’re going to get my career going. haha. it was a great success and i felt really good about myself for putting it together and working really hard, and finally putting a good show together for san luis obispo. lots of people came out to party and hang around all night and dance till 3am. everyone, or at least people who know about this stuff, said it was good. except tim kinsella said nothing more than "thanks for the veggies." but coming from tim kinsella..that’s good, right? i don’t know. he’s a big weirdo. we should have gotten his brother instead. so anyways..that’s how i’m leaving my time at kcpr and calpoly and downtown. i’m glad it ended up like it did. but i feel guilty about the left over bananas and hummus dip i left on the counter without cleaning up before i left.

Freedom

April 21, 2005

As you know, I’ve been working nights at the local community college. School has started to really pick up; I’ve never felt more swamped with school than I do this quarter. As you can imagine, with school and working nights, I haven’t been sleeping much. So, on Monday, I asked for the months of May and June off of work. My boss asked if I could work weekends. I was able to go in on Wednesday and tell him, “Not a chance.”

Long story short: I won’t be working May or June. How cool is that?

Paradise

April 17, 2005

It seems I just left this place, and I can’t wait to go back. I’m quiting my job specifically to lower my stress level, which may indirectly allow me to visit my home more. My sister is getting married there in 3 weeks, so I will be back soon enough.

God knows, I can’t wait.

Breathe

April 16, 2005

I have recently submitted a request to be taken off the schedule for May and June in order to have less stress. I thought I could handle 18 units and a 12 hr/week job, but I just can’t anymore. So, seems I will have more time for school, myself, and free time to do the things that make me happy. The things that I haven’t been able to do lately — it’s really bringing me down. If they deny the request, I am quiting, and that’s all there is to it. It going to make saving up for a Canon Digital Rebel XT a bit tricky, but it’ll happen soon enough.

Job Opportunity #1

April 7, 2005

I recently received information from a friend of a guy at Digital West in SLO that they have heard of me, through some of the software I’ve written under the alias ‘red0x,’ and that I should apply for a job, either for the summer, or from here on out.

We’ll see what happens.

Duh-bebbie

January 25, 2005
Debbie, my boss, is the reason why IT and tech-support people hate their jobs.

Ok, so today, Debbie was on the telephone for TWO HOURS figuring out her new password. Apologising and calling her self stupid the entire time. The poor lady she was talking to also got a little bit of the life story and Debbie saying "I don’t know, one of the days I gonna sngh, huf just snap, you know?" As to the noises in the middle, she made them, really. I nearly lost my mind. Truely come-on, I am not super smart when it comes to computers, but I get the job done, I just don’t see how it can take TWO HOURS on the phone with a tech person to figure out your new password.

A modest proposal... (or, Operation Other Polar Express)

March 10, 2005
I’m writing my Cover Letter/Personal Statement for my application to this job

The angle I’m going for on my cover letter? I have years of extensive end-user tech support experience. I also have years of lab research experience, which has helped me develop methodical problem-solving skills. In addition, I have experience working in scientific research environments, also with tempermental/arcane instrumentation equipment, tied to equally tempermental/arcane computers.

I’m having trouble tying this information all together for a well-put-together paragraph to this effect. Hopefully it’ll be easier come morning, but I would appreciate any and all editorial help on this matter. If you can help me hit the nail on the head in this matter, I will furnish you with a print of your choice of one of my photos.

(Keep in mind that I could really use your help even if you don’t want a photo. Conversely, you’ll probably get a print of your choice if you ask me when I’m not running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I really need to finish this app this week, though, and I need the help.)

So.. yeah. help me out by writing a cover letter-worthy draft of the above in a comment, please.

figures...

March 5, 2005
So, by my own diagnosis, I have strained or pulled my left Flexor Pollicis Brevis. I’m chalkng this up to repetitive strain, from two highly important tasks I perform during the average day as of late:

-Pipetting. my lab work consists of being able to repeatedly and rapidly pipet and transfer ~10 microliters of liquid in a precise manner, through use of a pipetman. Pipetmen are controlled by slow, steady thumb pressure, namely, by the Flexor Pollicis Brevis.

-Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Beth’s neighbors/housemates have GTA:SA. It is beautiful. It is fun. It is decadent. It is something I will incessantly play, even when I should be doing other things, like paying attention to the sexy redhead nibbling on my earlobe and humping my leg. I use my Flexor Pollicis Brevis to drive my vehicle and maneuver my homeboy CJ Johnson through his hood, while cappin’ bitches and slappin’ hoes.

So yes. I have a repetitive strain injury from analysis of protein interactions with polymers, and from excessive carjacking. I wonder if I can get a Syndrome named after me, or at least a journal article...

In other news, I’m flying to florida saturday night for some family business. I’ll be online, of course, but on the wrong coast. Family drama is to be expected, but such is life. Maybe I’ll get around to reading some of these grand books I’ve accrued and accreted in the past few weeks, and posting some of several hundred photos of the past few months.
